I’m always impressed by those home renovation t.v. shows that can get a full house renovated in an hour. Of course, those shows are time lapsed, there are hundreds of people working behind the scenes and they have unlimited budgets.
In my world, home projects take a bit longer than an hour to complete and I don’t have an unlimited budget. That is why many rooms in my house still look the same as they did the day we moved in. So, when I heard that Linda at Calling it Home was hosting a One Room Challenge – Fall 2015, I thought what the heck, let’s give it a shot.
So here we go with Week 1 & 2. Yes, I’m a week behind everybody else, but then again I only started the blog a couple of days ago. 😉
So I waffled about which room to work on and decided to go with my 15 year old daughter’s room. She wanted a bright room, and I wanted it organized. She wanted girly, and I wanted a design that will grow with her.
We have a similar bed with drawers on one side that we are going to make into a daybed for her.
Paint the room
Bookshelves – These will on either side of bed, create a focal point & add some storage
Desk area for homework
Make-up vanity area
Re-Paint old dresser, chair for desk
Accent lighting for the room
Bed linens and pillows- reuse existing cover?
I don’t have a before picture of the room because I’m not that good of a blogger… yet!
But this will give you an idea of where we started with… picture the entire room in that dark chocolate brown colour. It was dark!
Over the weekend I started to paint the room a light grey colour – Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore. I had to do two coats to cover that dark colour, and it was paint and primer in one.
Then the next day (Canadian Thanksgiving Day) I painted it the turquoise colour! I love the colour!
Already it was so much brighter!
The turqouise colour is “glass bead” By Rona Collection.
I have ordered bookcases from Home Depot. Hopefully they get here in the next week or so. I will add some crown moulding to make it look like the inspiration bookcases.
We’re keeping the existing light fixture but we will add a lamp or lights some where else in the room.
We’re trying to re-purpose furniture and items from around the house as much as possible.
We’re having a lot fun dreaming up ideas for her room makeover.
And be sure to check-out the other participants in The One Room Challenge,
linking up with Linda!
