Boy this one room challenge is moving fast, we are already on week 3, and I feel like I’m running out of time. We have so many projects going on around here and I feel like nothing is getting done all at once. Does that make sense? I swear this basement reno is taking up all of my time, and it’s not even fun stuff. But I need to get this teal teen girl bedroom done on time; I promised my daughter and her birthday is coming up next month.
If you are new around here and are wondering what I’m babbling about, this is a one room challenge which is hosted by Linda where you completely overhaul one room in your house within 6 weeks.
So, last I left you with this One Room Challenge, we had painted the room, in two colours. Just changing the room colour from dark to a lighter and brighter colour made such a BIG difference. Such a happy room now.
I was actually pleasantly surprised that the bookcases that I ordered from Home Depot came in within 3 days after I placed the order. Originally my confirmation e-mail said 7- 14 days. So I did a happy dance when I saw the delivery guy at my door. My daughter helped me bring the boxes up to her bedroom. It was definitely a two person job, each bookcase took about 20 minutes or so to put together. Really easy instructions and all of the pieces were there which was another bonus. The only tools we needed were a screwdriver and a hammer.
Here are the bookcases on either side of the bed. My daughter didn’t want the backings put on the bookcases because she wants the teal to show through. I don’t blame her, it’s such a pretty colour. The only problem with these bookcases is that they are not flush to the wall, because the baseboards and quarter round at the bottom of the wall make them stick out a bit. I’m thinking of using my jigsaw to cut into the bottom of the bookcases. What do you think?
I will also be adding crown moulding at the top of the bookcases to make them more custom looking.
I also saw this area rug online at Walmart.ca. I read up on the reviews on the site that the colour was bit off, so instead I popped into the store and I was excited to see that it was the exact colour of the wall in the room. I brought the paint chip with me, to make sure. 🙂
We also threw some pillows on the bed that belonged to my other daughters bed set. She wants to change her colours too. Not sure yet, if those will be staying or not. Too much teal?
I think the colours are working well together though, don’t you? But now we are thinking we need to add another colour into the mix, to tame down the turquoise. Maybe the pink that is in the baskets on shelves.
We still have a lot to do in this room but at least we can check area rug and bookcases off the list. 🙂
